Parents and Babies (ages 0 - 12 months) **
TUESDAYS: 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Babies remain in the care of their parents.
Topics may include: understanding your baby’s unique temperament, fussy baby, feeding, sleep, what to expect as baby grows, encouraging baby’s interest in the world, fostering baby’s sense of self, baby talk and baby play, life changes for mom and dad.
Parents and Toddlers (ages 12 - 36 months) *
FRIDAYS: 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
LEADER: Linda Strommen
Topics may include: emotional development and behavior, “It’s Mine!” and learning to share, how temperament defines personality, discipline, managing anger (yours and your child’s), from pampers to potty, how much “screen time” is okay, and encouraging your child’s competence and confidence.
Parents and Preschoolers Plus (birth through age 8) *
MONDAYS: 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
THURSDAYS: 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Topics may include: siblings and the struggle for attention, encouraging the development of empathy and compassion, encouraging problem solving, fostering a child’s ability to think in an analytical way, encouraging independence and responsibility, teaching values and morals, how children learn to read and learn to love reading, and helping your children get the right start in kindergarten and the grades.
*Playgroup for the children and younger siblings is provided for registered children during the daytime parenting groups.

Mommy and Me is an interactive program geared for the toddler/preschooler and his/her favorite person (mom, dad, grandparent or childcare provider). Classes are 1½ hours. During that time you and your child will be involved in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, singing, movement exercise and story time. Snack is provides by the center.

Conquering Stress as a Single Parent

American Red Cross Babysitting Course
Date: Saturday, November 1, 2008

A fun and fast-paced course with hands-on activities, exciting video, role-plays and lively discussions. Youth ages 12 to 15 learn child-care, first aid, leadership and communication skills such as: supervising children and infants, performing basic child-care skills such as diapering, and feeding, choosing safe, age-appropriate games and toys, handling bedtime and discipline issues, identifying safety hazards and preventing injuries, caring for common injuries, communicating effectively with parents, finding and interviewing for babysitting jobs. The class participant fee includes a Babysitter's Training Handbook, Emergency Reference Guide and CD-ROM for babysitters to use in the class and on the job.
Working Parents Discussion Group

This workshop is for parents who are away during the day and worry about missing time with their children, wonder how to strike a reasonable balance between the demands of family and the demands of work, and would like to meet other with similar concerns. Topics to be discussed will be geared to meet the interests of participants and may include: adjusting to two full time jobs, choosing childcare, helping little ones adjust when parents leave, communicating with caregivers, and children’s behavior at the end of the day.
Parenting for Dads

This workshop will focus on the unique role fathers play in their children’s early development. It will cover all important topics such as children’s behavior, what to expect young children to do, discipline, and how mom’s and dad’s different parenting styles contribute to a child’s emotional health. Chris Edom was a kindergarten teacher with North Shore School for 15 years, currently, he is a stay-at-home Dad for his two son’s aged 5 and 2.

This course is designed to train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in infants and children.
*Our skilled play teachers will be available to guide children’s play while parents meet. Please let us know if your children will attend.
